City's First Sustainability Awards

In October, Mayor Greg Ballard announced the first Sustainability Awards to be held in January 2010 to recognize partners in the City's efforts. The nomination deadline is December 15, 2009. Learn More...


BANK ON INDY
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and First Lady Winnie Ballard recently announced a new campaign to help open no-cost and low-cost bank accounts for the nearly 80,000 Marion County residents who don’t currently utilize banking services. Visit www.bankonindy.org to learn more.

  • 11.18.09 CITY INSTALLS NEW BIKE RACKS THROUGHOUT DOWNTOWN DISTRICT
    The City of Indianapolis has completed a bike rack installation project that brings 54 new bike racks to the downtown area.
    “We’re working to make Indianapolis a truly bicycle friendly city,” said Mayor Greg Ballard. “In addition to constructing miles of new on-street bike lanes in Indianapolis, the addition of new bike racks gives cyclists an opportunity to safely and properly secure their bikes while enjoying downtown businesses and attractions.” Read More...



  • 11.13.09 RUSH HOUR RECYCLING EVENTS COLLECT 40 TONS OF RECYCLABLES

  • 11.5.09 $30,000 GRANT WILL FUND EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD PROJECT
    On Nov. 5, Mayor Greg Ballard joined Project School Principal Tarrence Banks and community leaders to announce the beginning of an edible schoolyard pilot project. The City’s Brownfield Redevelopment Program, in partnership with the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC), is awarding a $30,000 grant to the Project School, 1145 E. 22nd St., to transform 1.5 acres on the school’s property into a sustainable urban garden, containing primarily edible plants. The pilot will also be used to guide development of future urban farming policy and projects. Read More...

    On Nov. 4, Mayor Greg Ballard recognized 19 volunteers at the 2009 Community Service Awards held at the Indiana Historical Society.
