Inaugural Mayor's Bike Ride 2009
On Saturday May 16, 2009, over 500 local residents joined Mayor Greg Ballard for the Inaugural Mayor's Bike Ride. The free event was created to help citizens get acquainted with the city’s new on-street bike lanes connecting downtown to the Eastside, the Westside, Greenways and the Cultural Trail.
The downtown lanes are the first installment of the Sustain Indy Bikeways plan that connects with the Indy Cultural Trail.
"It continues to be my goal to provide the citizens of Indianapolis with more bike lanes and trails so everyone can safely bike to work, to the grocery and even to events downtown," said Mayor Ballard.
"There is no question that more bicycle traffic on Indy streets means healthier people, cleaner air and less congestion."
