RELIEF EFFORTS CONTINUE FOR FAMILIES AFFECTED BY TORNADO
INDIANAPOLIS – (June 11, 2008) City and area organizations have continued to assist families affected by the tornado that caused significant damage on the city’s east side twelve days ago.
The Front Porch Alliance, the Community Alliance of the Far East Side (CAFÉ), the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and additional city, community and ministry partners have continued to work together to fulfill the needs of the affected community.
Residents of the Falcon Point apartment complex are continuing to be allowed access to retrieve their belongings as long as conditions are safe. The complex has been turned over to property owners and residents are encouraged to contact the property manager, Debi Sanders, at (317) 258-9290 to arrange for property retrieval.
According to the Red Cross, over 260 families were displaced by the storms. Of those 260 families, only three are still in need of housing assistance.
Residents are encouraged to contact the Red Cross at (317) 684-1441 or visit the CAFÉ Community Center at 8902 E. 38th St. to register for assistance if they have not done so already.
Additionally, no cost volunteer resources are available to help cut up tree debris and move it to the curb this week through Friday, June 13th in the area most affected by the May 30th tornado bounded by 38th Street, 42nd Street, areas east of German Church Rd. and west of Post Rd.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) will remove large limb and tree debris cut into pieces not larger than 3 feet long and placed along the curb through the end of this week in the affected area.
Anyone wishing no cost assistance with their tree removal may register for help by either calling 1-866-679-4631 or going to www.helpmarioncounty.org.
Anyone who misses the Friday deadline or are outside of the affected area, are encouraged to cut and bundle debris into 3 feet square bundles that can be picked up by regular heavy trash routes. Residents may also have contractors haul away debris to the Southside Landfill located at 2577 Kentucky Ave. or they may take the debris to the Marion County Citizens' Transfer Station located at 2700 S. Belmont Ave., which is open nearly every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dumpsters are also available at German Church Park located at 10510 E. 30th St.
