MAYOR BALLARD ANNOUNCES GIPC, JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT PARTNERSHIP

INDIANAPOLIS – (May 7, 2008) Mayor Greg Ballard announced a partnership between the Junior Achievement Best & Brightest and the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC) at GIPC’s Board of Directors meeting this morning at WellPoint.

The Best & Brightest Program was established five years ago to identify a new generation of leaders in Central Indiana.  The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee exists to provide a forum in which leaders of the public and private sector of Indianapolis can work as partners to study, discuss, and address issues of concern and areas of opportunity which affect the progress of the City.  Since its inception in 1965, GIPC has played a major role in bringing together people and representatives from all sectors of the community to solve problems and advise the Mayor of Indianapolis.  Together, Junior Achievement’s Best & Brightest and the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee will work to further the City’s strategic plans that, once carried out, will make Indianapolis a better place to live.

“Our intentions are to join GIPC and other officials in the administration with the Best and Brightest Young  Professionals in Central Indiana to advance our plans for strategic planning in areas of Minority Business Development, Abandoned Housing, and Prisoner Re-entry among others,” Mayor Ballard said. “We will surely see the benefits of our Public/Private Partnerships as well as the benefits of getting our young professionals active in our City’s plans for the future.”

Jeff Miller, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana and a GIPC Board Member, joined the Mayor for this morning’s announcement.

“JA of Central Indiana is extremely pleased to collaborate with GIPC,” Miller said.  “This kind of partnership opportunity is what JA had envisioned for the Best & Brightest at its inception and will allow the young professionals involved to have a significant impact on the community.”

The categories for Junior Achievement Best & Brightest nominations are: Accounting; Banking & Financial Services; Education & Nonprofit; Government; Health & Life Sciences; Law; Media, Entertainment & Sports; Real Estate, Development & Construction; Manufacturing, Retail & Services; and Technology.
