INDIANAPOLIS TO WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS
INDIANAPOLIS (May 1, 2008) – Mayor Greg Ballard today announced plans for the city’s first “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans” event, an Armed Services Day event to honor Vietnam veterans and their families.
“This is an important recognition of the sacrifice and service of Vietnam veterans, a group of men and women who were never properly welcomed home,” Mayor Ballard said. “We have an opportunity now to thank them for their service, and I invite everyone in the community to come show their support and respect.”
The community is invited and encouraged to join Mayor Ballard, community leaders, veterans and active service men and women on May 17, 2008 at the Indiana War Memorial. The event will feature a video tribute, reflections from veterans, the reading of a Letter to a Soldier, commemorative pins and an opportunity to visit the Indiana War Memorial Museum.
