Mayor declares ‘Fever Weekend’ to back city’s own team in the WNBA playoffs
Indianapolis – Mayor Bart Peterson will declare this coming Thursday through the weekend as “Fever Weekend” and encourages all of Indianapolis to wear Indiana Fever colors, T-shirts and jerseys in honor of the Fever’s trip to the WNBA playoffs.
The series tips off Thursday night at 7 p.m. against the Connecticut Sun on ESPN2. The Fever will host Game 2 at Conseco Fieldhouse at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and if necessary Game 3 Monday night.
“The Indiana Fever is continuing the outstanding professional sports tradition of our city and the tradition of great Hoosier basketball of the entire state of Indiana,” Mayor Peterson said. “Just as we’ve gotten behind the Colts, Pacers and Bulldogs in the past year, we will get behind this great group of athletes.”
“These young women are outstanding representatives of their sport, but even more so, are representing our city with excellence, hard work and class.”
On “Fever Weekend,” the Mayor is encouraging Indianapolis residents and employees to wear Fever colors (red, gold & blue) throughout the weekend or fly Fever flags and banners in their homes and offices. Local businesses also can get in the spirit by hanging Fever posters and banners in storefronts, spelling out “Go Fever” on their outdoor signs, flying Fever flags and banners encouraging employees to wear Fever colors throughout the weekend.
