City to remember September 11 with sixth ‘Community Fair’ on Monument Circle

INDIANAPOLIS – The city of Indianapolis and the United Way of Central Indiana once again will co-host a Community Fair on Monument Circle to commemorate the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Mayor Bart Peterson announced today.

The sixth annual event will take place Tuesday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monument Circle.  Last year, more than 150 local organizations participated in the Community Fair including the American Red Cross, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Indiana, The Indianapolis Zoo, the Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis, Second Helpings Inc., March of Dimes, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and many more.

Mayor Peterson, in conjunction with the United Way, invite local not-for-profit agencies, charities and human services organizations to set up information tables on the Circle to register volunteers, accept donations, or educate the public about their missions. There is a $10 registration fee per table. To participate, organizations must be not-for-profit with a 501(c)(3) designation and accept tax-deductible contributions.

“In the same way we helped each other heal in the days following September 11, 2001, we should remember our strong desire to help one another and carry it forward to every day of our lives,” Mayor Peterson said. “Together, we can help prevent hate, lift the spirit of a community and promote tolerance and cooperation.”
