New Mayor’s Neighborhood Liaisons appointed

INDIANAPOLIS – The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services today announced the appointments of Carmen Lethig and Jeff Small as the newest mayor’s neighborhood liaisons.  Lethig and Small both started their positions on June 18, 2007.

The mayor’s neighborhood liaisons serve as links between city government services and neighborhoods, community groups and businesses.

“I am pleased to have such talented individuals join the city’s team of neighborhood liaisons,” said Mayor Bart Peterson.  “Their broad knowledge base, work experience and proven collaborative skills will benefit both the city of Indianapolis and the citizens they will serve.”

Lethig will be responsible for serving Warren Township and east side organizations including Irvington, Warren Park and the Warren Township Development Association.

Lethig joins the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services after earning a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Ball State University.  Her studies emphasized city planning as well as community development and neighborhood issues.  While in school, she assisted with various projects in downtown Indianapolis including neighborhood planning and economic development initiatives.

Prior to returning to school, Lethig worked as a paralegal for a large downtown Indianapolis law firm where she specialized in the organization of corporations for recently merged companies.  Lethig earned a B.A. in Communications from Purdue University and is a member of the Indiana Planning Association.

Small will be responsible for serving southern Center Township and near south side neighborhoods including Garfield Park, Concord, Southeast Community Organization and the Southeast Umbrella Organization.

Small came to the division of Neighborhood Services from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis where he served as the agency’s director of program development.  While with the agency, Small worked with local and national stakeholders to create high quality out-of–school enrichment opportunities for nearly 12,000 Indianapolis-area children and their families.

Small earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from DePauw University in 2001 and a master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies through the Center of Philanthropy at Indiana University in 2005.

In addition to these appointments, other changes have also occurred in the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services.

Service areas for many of the mayor’s neighborhood liaisons have changed to better accommodate neighborhood groups.  A new map with updated service areas can be found at www.indygov.org/myneighborhood.

And, Peterson appointed Michael Weiseman as the new senior supervisor at the Mayor’s Action Center.   Weiseman came to Neighborhood Services with strong call center management and customer service training as well as development experience.  Weiseman earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Indiana University in 2001 and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Butler University in 2007.
