City, Young Audiences of Indiana to present
“The Art of Leadership”

Indianapolis – The City of Indianapolis and Young Audiences of Indiana will present Bill Strickland, The Art of Leadership today.  Bill Strickland speaks of a simple message,  “Give people the tools they need, treat them with respect and they will perform miraculous deeds.”

                                 When: TODAY, Thursday, June 14
                                           5:30 p.m.

                              Where: Butler University, Atherton Union
                                          (Reilly Room)

Strickland, Founder and CEO of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and the Bidwell Training Center in Pittsburg, has dedicated his life to focusing on rescuing at-risk school kids by using the arts to teach them life skills. Strickland is the social entrepreneur and visionary responsible for cultivating collaborative partnerships between communities and corporations. Strickland’s vision grew from the day that he was inspired by a high school ceramics teacher who convinced him that he had talent and ability and was limited only by his circumstances.  Strickland’s accomplishments as a leader and humanitarian are reflected not in awards or accolades, but in the thousands of people who have raised themselves out of poverty and into the world of full-time employment through the organizations he has built.

The Community Crime Prevention Task Force of Indianapolis recommended in a report that more programs be created that offer young people opportunities to congregate and express themselves in positive way. Young Audiences of Indiana was cited as a leader in offering programs that reach youth in school, after school and in the juvenile detention system.

The Community Crime Prevention Task Force was charged with examining the underlying problems that led to the surge of violence in the community and recommended actions to prevent crime before it occurs.
