Mayor to attend dedication ceremony for the new Brookside School 54
Indianapolis – Mayor Bart Peterson will join Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) leaders for the of the new Brookside School 54.

The new elementary school has been under construction for the past two years. The new building occupies the same property where the 96-year-old former school was located. Students began attending their new school last August, but site work (including demolition of the old building) continued until just recently. The new building features larger classrooms, a separate gym and cafeteria, a modern media center and a parent-community room. It is fully air conditioned, fully accessible to people with handicaps and features a safer bus drop off site on the 11th Street side of the building. Many architectural elements from the previous school have been incorporated into the new school, and treasured artworks have been moved to the new building.
The new Brookside School 54 is part of a Capital Improvements Program to upgrade all Indianapolis Public Schools buildings.
