City, public meetings to be webcast, now available on indygov.org
INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Bart Peterson, the city-county Information Services Agency and Cable Communications Agency today announced that many public meetings, including the City-County Council and others , will now be available on the internet.
The new technology will allow programming on the city-county television stations, WCTY Channel 16 and Government TV2, to be available by live webcast, as well as through an archived video collection of public meeting broadcasts over the city’s website, www.indygov.org.
The new programming service is currently available to the public.
“We must make every attempt, every day to ensure that the business of city and county government is as open and accessible to the people we serve as possible,” Mayor Peterson said. “This exciting new webcasting system will make our job communicating with residents easier and make government closer to the people.”
Citizens will be able to search through a comprehensive video archive of committee and board meetings. In many instances the meeting agenda will be included, with descriptors such as case numbers or proposal numbers to allow the user to navigate to that particular point in the video.
Indianapolis is the first municipality in Indiana to partner with Granicus, Inc., who works with over 250 municipalities across 28 states, specializing in government webcasting solutions, for this new service. With this partnership Indianapolis is rising to meet new requirements of the digital age by advancing the city’s communication capabilities with video webcasting.
