Mayor, Community announce improvement plans for Near-Eastside
Indianapolis – Mayor Peterson will join community leaders on the near eastside to announce early successes, including infrastructure investments to support redevelopment in the neighborhood. The infrastructure investments will be a visible sign to the Near Eastside neighbors of the transformative changes that are forthcoming from the Great Indy Neighborhood Initiative.

The City is using a special redevelopment tool that covers the cost of sidewalk repair, street repaving, street lights, drainage, and rehabilitation of decaying homes, and other improvements from the increased tax revenues generated by redevelopment. "Creating this redevelopment area means improved infrastructure and focused redevelopment near our public schools, in our residential neighborhoods and along the commercial corridors on the near-eastside," Mayor Peterson said.
