City to join IBLC in a MLK commemoration
Indianapolis – The City of Indianapolis and other local groups will join the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC) in hosting an event remembering the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Making the Dream a Reality; Our Commitment to Peace and Non-Violence.
When: Wednesday, April 4 Activities begin at 3 p.m. Program begins at 5 p.m. Special significance given at 6:01 p.m.
Where: Charity Dye School 27; 545 E. 19th St.
This year marks the 39th anniversary of the tragic event of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. On April 4, 1968 many cities across the nation reacted to the assassination with violence, but the inspiring speech given by Senator Robert Kennedy helped to foster a climate where the citizens of Indianapolis expressed their outrage and sorrow in a peaceful manner.
Joining the City and IBLC in hosting this peaceful event is the Indiana Christian Leadership Conference, Indiana Black Expo, Indianapolis Black Chamber of Commerce, The Peace Learning Center, Marion County Treasurer Michael Rodman, and Service for Peace, Pet Butler.
Sponsors of the event include St. Vincent Hospital, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Indiana Pacers, Indiana State Teachers Association, Melvin and Bren Simon Foundation, Engaging Solutions, Starbucks, Health and Hospital Corporation, United Water, Subway, Citco, and Skyline Chili.
