Entertainment industry leaders, local officials to descend on Indy for national summit on violent media
INDIANAPOLIS – Tomorrow, Mayor Bart Peterson, in his role as President of the National League of Cities, will host local community leaders from across the country, entertainment industry representatives, and academic experts as part of a national summit focused on the impacts of violent media.
The full-day event comes on the heels of a Federal Trade Commission report to Congress detailing that minors continue to have access to restricted violent media.
The summit will offer a rare opportunity for key leaders to build consensus aimed at raising public and parental awareness and involvement around the issue of media violence and its negative impacts on youth. The event will be moderated by Terence Smith, former correspondent for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer; it will also be webcast live on www.ncntv.org/events/070417/.
