Mayor declares ‘Butler Blue’ Friday
Indianapolis – In honor of the nationally ranked Butler Bulldogs’ run to the NCAA Sweet 16, Mayor Bart Peterson today declared this Friday as “Butler Blue” Friday and encouraged all Bulldog fans and alumni in Indianapolis to wear the school’s colors and apparel.
The Preseason NIT Champion and Horizon League Co-Champion Bulldogs will take on top seeded Florida in St. Louis on Friday. The winner will enter the Elite Eight and play for a birth in this year’s Final Four.
“National powers and major conference heavy-weights have learned the hard way about the ‘Butler Way’ of playing college basketball,” Mayor Peterson said. “The Bulldogs’ hustle, poise, intelligence and teamwork have them on the cusp of the biggest stage in college athletics.
“I’m a proud Purdue alum, but I’ve always been a big Bulldog fan as well. It’s easy to root for this great group of young men because of the way they compete and play the game. And I think many in our city – no matter what school they went to – feel the same way.”
The Mayor stated that he had hoped for a “dream match-up” between Purdue and Butler in the regional semi-final. Despite playing top-seeded Florida tough throughout Sunday’s game, Purdue lost 74 -67.
