Senior Charter Schools Advisor Harris to testify in Washington D.C. regarding Mayor’s charter schools initiative

Washington, D.C. – Mayor Bart Peterson’s Senior Charter Schools Advisor David Harris will join a panel of leading education experts that will testify before the Council of the District of Columbia on the role of mayors in public education.  Harris will discuss Mayor Peterson’s charter schools initiative.

The panel is part of a larger ongoing discussion organized by the council of the District of Columbia. Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s has proposed to reform the Washington, D. C. public schools, found in The District of Columbia Public Education Reform Amendment Act 2007, Bill 17-0001.

The panel of experts includes New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein; Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan; Providence Mayor David Cicilline; and former Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell. 

Harris will testify on Mayor Peterson’s charter schools initiative, which last year won Harvard University’s Innovations in American Government Award. 

In addition to serving as the Mayor’s Senior Charter Schools Advisor, Harris is the President and CEO of The Mind Trust, a new nonprofit focused on improving public education in Indianapolis by attracting, supporting and empowering education entrepreneurs.
