Peterson ups ante in bet with Chicago’s Daley

Indianapolis – Surrounded by the sweet music of the renowned Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Mayor Bart Peterson today joined restaurant owners, chefs and cultural development leaders to announce Indianapolis’ friendly Super Bowl wager with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

Given the Super Bowl is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, Peterson upped the ante this time, offering Chicago a lengthy list of wager items representative of the great amenities, sports events, cultural offerings and restaurants that make Indianapolis a destination city.

Indy’s wager package includes:

  • Tickets to the Big Ten Basketball Championship held in Conseco Fieldhouse and all three races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which are the largest single day sporting events in the world.

  • Tickets to see legendary singer/songwriter Neil Sedaka perform with the award-winning Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra this spring and admission to many other events, museums and amenities from the city’s arts and culture scene.

  • Elaborate spreads from 13 of Indianapolis’ finest local restaurants.

All of the items will be turned over to Mayor Daley in Chicago in the very unlikely event the Bears win on Sunday.

“These friendly wagers have developed into a norm for politicians in these situations,” Mayor Peterson said.  “But they really are an opportunity to highlight all the great things Indianapolis has to offer as a thriving, progressive, destination city.”

Peterson congratulated the Chicago Bears and wished his friend, Mayor Daley the best of luck this weekend.  “Chicago is a tremendous city with great culture and entertainment.  And our neighbors to the north are always welcome here to enjoy Indianapolis’ own world-class restaurants, sporting events and cultural amenities.  But I just don’t want it to be this bet that brings them down I-65.”

Like the Colts, Peterson is on a roll in the playoffs in bets with opposing city mayors.  Mayor Peterson won a crab cake dinner from Baltimore for members of the Indy Blue Crew after the Colts ousted the Ravens in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs.  A shipment of lobster and Boston Cream pies are also heading to Indy from a bet made with Boston over the AFC Championship game.  Peterson has predicted a big win by the Colts on Sunday.
