Colts win will mean more East-coast seafood heading to Indy
Fresh off winning Maryland crab cake bet with Baltimore, Mayor Peterson offers up another friendly wager with Boston Mayor
Indianapolis – After winning a crab cake lunch from the Baltimore Mayor for members of the Colts’ Blue Crew fan club, Mayor Bart Peterson today entered into another friendly bet with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.
If the Colts win Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots, Menino will ship a lobster bake from Legal Seafood and ten Boston cream pies from the Omni Parker House Hotel. In the unlikely scenario the Patriots prevail, Peterson will again offer up steak dinners and some world-renowned shrimp cocktail from historic St. Elmo’s Steakhouse, which is consistently recognized as an Indianapolis landmark.
“After dominating the Chiefs and ousting the Baltimore Ravens, the Colts enter this game with a lot of momentum and a strong 12th man behind them as Indianapolis fans work themselves into a football frenzy before Sunday’s game,” Mayor Peterson said.
“I have a lot of respect for Mayor Menino and the great city of Boston – and the same can certainly be said for the Patriots,” Peterson continued. “I expect an epic game on Sunday, and when time runs out in the fourth quarter, I hope to be on the phone to Mayor Menino placing my order for some world-famous, East-coast lobster.”
Earlier today, Mayor Peterson joined members of the Indy Blue Crew, Indy’s largest Colts fan club, for a crab cake lunch prepared by chefs from Phillips Seafood in Baltimore. The crab cakes were won in a bet with then-Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley after the Colts beat the Ravens in the AFC divisional playoff game last week.
The Blue Crew crab cake event was hosted by Second Helpings, an Indianapolis-based organization committed to safely rescuing prepared and perishable food, re-preparing it into nutritious meals, and distributing up to 2800 meals daily to over 50 social service organizations that serve disadvantaged adults and children. Members of the Blue Crew thanked their hosts at Second Helpings by making a significant donation of large cans of food to aid the organization in its efforts to feed needy families.
