Mayor declares ‘Blue Friday’ to gear up for game; enters into friendly wager with Baltimore mayor
Indianapolis – Mayor Bart Peterson today declared this Friday as “Blue Friday” and encouraged all of Indianapolis to wear Colts’ colors, T-shirts and jerseys to gear up for the divisional playoff game this Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens.
Peterson today also entered into a friendly bet with Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley. If the Colts win Saturday’s game, O’Malley will ship some of Maryland’s world-famous crab cakes. In the unlikely scenario the Ravens prevail, Peterson will send Mayor O’Malley a steak and some world-renowned shrimp cocktail from historic St. Elmo’s Steakhouse, which is consistently recognized as Indianapolis landmark.
“After dominating the Chiefs, the Colts are on a roll and our city is behind them all the way,” Mayor Peterson said. “Baltimore is a fine city and the Ravens have a great team with a solid defense. But with all due respect to Mayor O’Malley and Ravens fans, I can’t wait to taste some of those famous Maryland crab cakes.”
This Friday, the Mayor is encouraging Indianapolis residents and employees to:
- Wear Colts’ colors, shirts and jerseys. City employees will be allowed to dress casually Friday to wear Colts’ gear;
- Fly Colts flags and banners in their homes and offices; and
- Hold Colts parties and get-togethers to watch Saturday’s game with fellow fans.
Local businesses are encouraged to support the Colts by:
- Encouraging employees to wear Colts’ colors throughout the weekend;
- Hanging Colts’ posters and banners in storefronts;
- Spelling out “Go Colts” on their outdoor signs; and
- Fly Colts flags and banners.
