Community Crime Prevention Task Force releases recommendations for addressing crime
Indianapolis – The 48-member Community Crime Prevention Task Force today released its “Community Recommendations for addressing Crime in Indianapolis and Marion County.”
The report will act as a community blueprint for supporting crime prevention measures that are known to work. The recommendations include key areas of focus for providing “sensible solutions” to preventing and keeping people out of the criminal justice system. These include examples of a number of successful programs that are in operation right now.
The task force recommendations can be accessed by going online to www.indygov.org and clicking the link “GIPC Community Crime Prevention Task Force.”
Mayor Bart Peterson will address the report and the city’s support for its recommendations tonight at 7 p.m. in his primetime address about a long-term crime fighting package. The Mayor’s speech will take place in the Beurt SerVaas Public Assembly Room in the City-County Builiding.
The task force’s recommendations were reached through an analysis of data, extensive research and public testimony over the last four months.
The task force is a blue-ribbon panel called for by City-County Council President Monroe Gray and organized by The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee to study the root causes of crime and recommend strategies to address those causes.
