Initiative to explore international Interfaith Research Center & Museum in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS – A recent donation of $31,000 will be used as seed money for the International Interfaith Initiative (III) in Indianapolis, a plan to foster better understanding between and among various religions.
The initiative is a collaborative effort among Peace Learning Center, Sagamore Institute for Policy Research, and the Indiana University School of Education in Indianapolis.
The initiative is endorsed by the City of Indianapolis and grew out of the Sister City partnership between Indianapolis and Cologne, Germany. The donation came from Herr Klaus Martin Finzel of Cologne.
The initiative has three main goals:
- To foster interfaith cooperation to strengthen civil society;
- To implement a series of Youth Interfaith Dialogues that will include middle school students from local public, private, and faith-based schools; and
- To complete an assessment to determine the feasibility of establishing an International Interfaith Research Center & Museum in Indianapolis.
The International Interfaith Initiative is planning an Interfaith Symposium in early December to gather representatives of Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other faith communities in Indianapolis to build relationships between and among institutions with religious and/or civic affiliation. From this symposium will come an assessment of Indianapolis’ potential to create and sustain a relevant center for the earnest study of faith as a tool for positive transformation.
Additionally, the I.I.I. will co-sponsor an Abrahamic religions’ bus tour on Sunday, November 12 as part of Spirit and Place, as well as co-sponsor a discussed called “Picturing the Middle East” on Monday, December 25.
