Mayor to host next “City Hall for a Day” in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood

INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Bart Peterson and members of his administration will host the ninth “City Hall for a Day” Thursday in the Martindale Brightwood neighborhood.

WHEN:   Tomorrow, Thursday, September 14

The boundaries for the area to be included in “City Hall for a Day” activities are Massachusetts Ave. (south), the Monon Trail (west), Sherman Dr. (east) and 34th St., from the Monon to Keystone, and 30th St. from Keystone to Sherman streets (north).

“City Hall for a Day” brings many of the staff and resources of city government to a particular area of the community for one day, allowing the Mayor and city staffers to meet with local neighborhood leaders, visit local businesses, see community projects and activities, and take part in many other activities and events.

As a part of  “City Hall for a Day” and the Mayor's summer crime prevention strategy, city crews will launch a series of neighborhood blitzes in Martindale-Brightwood.  City crews will flood the area to cut high weeds, pick up trash and debris along streets and alleys, fill potholes, pick up stray animals, remove illegal signs and fix broken signs and lights.  Future blitzes and cleanups in Martindale-Brightwood are scheduled for the follwing dates:

  • Thursday -  September 14, 8 a.m. – City and County crews will focus on an area bounded by 22nd St on the north, 16th Street on the south, College Avenue on the West, and Sheldon Street on the east.
  • Thursday, September 21 (southeast portion of the neighborhood)
  • Saturday, September 30 -   Martindale-Brightwood Community Clean-Up Day.  Employees of Key Bank are volunteering their time to assist with the September 30th cleanup day.

Martindale Brightwood "City Hall for a Day" schedule:

9 a.m.-3 p.m.  The Indianapolis Police Department will stage its Mobile Community Outreach Police Station van in the parking lot of the Brightwood Branch of the Marion County Public Library.  Roll call will be held there at 1:30 p.m.  The Mounted Patrol will also conduct patrols on horses in the early afternoon.  Members of the public are welcome to stop by.  Where:  2435 N. Sherman Dr.

9 a.m.   Charter Schools Director Dan Roy & Assistant Director Corrie Heneghan will visit Hazel Hendricks School #37.  Where:  2605 E. 25th St.

9 a.m.  Mayor’s Faith-based Coordinator Marquisha Bridgeman will visit St. Rita’s church.

9:40 a.m. Charter Schools Director Dan Roy & Assistant Director Corrie Heneghan will visit James Russell Lowell School #51.  Where:  3426 Roosevelt Ave.

10 a.m.  DMD Director Maury Plambeck & Assistant Deputy Mayor Eugene Anderson will visit the Brightwood Community Center. Where:  2410 Station St.

10 a.m.  Mayor’s Faith-based Coordinator Marquisha Bridgeman will visit the Oasis of Hope Church CDC.
 
10:15  Public Safety Advisor Jerry McCory, Department of Public Safety Director Earl
Morgan & DMD Division of Planning Administrator Mike Peoni will visit the Marion
County Juvenile Court and Prosecutors Office.  Where:   2451 N. Keystone Ave.

10:30-11:15 a.m. Mayor Peterson will visit the Julian D. Coleman Academy for girls.  The Mayor will talk with the girls about how they can become leaders in their community.  Where:  1740 E. 30th St.

10:30 a.m. Bond Bank Director Barbara Lawrence & Animal Care and Control Administrator Leslie Fatum will visit W & M Insulation.  Where:  2603 E. 30th St.

11 a.m.  Bond Bank Director Barbara Lawrence & Animal Care and Control Administrator Leslie Fatum will visit Deaney Equipment.  Where:   1927 E. 30th St. 

11 a.m.–2 p.m. The Indianapolis Fire Departments will have the “Survive Alive” Safety Trailer present with the Fire & Life Safety Program.  Additionally, fire and life safety handouts and smoke detectors will be available.  All apparatus will be in-service during this time and available to respond to an emergency dispatch.  Where:  Parking lot of the Brightwood Branch of the Marion County Public Library, 2435 N. Sherman Dr.

11:15 a.m.  Department of Public Safety Director Earl Morgan & DMD Division of Planning Administrator Mike Peoni will visit businesses at the 25th Street Plaza.  Where:  2204 – 2304 E. 25th St.

11:25 a.m.-12:10 p.m.   Mayor Peterson will join neighborhood leaders and city government staff on a bus tour of the neighborhood to discuss issues including business needs, crime, neighborhood resources, and more.

11:30 a.m. Bond Bank Director Barbara Lawrence & Animal Care and Control Administrator Leslie Fatum will visit Family Dollar.  Where:  2345 E. 30th St.

11:30 a.m. Mayor’s Office Deputy Chief of Staff Andy Klineman & Council Relations Director Garland Graves will visit the Brulin Company.  Where:  2920 Dr. Andrew J. Brown St.

12 p.m.  Bond Bank Director Barbara Lawrence & Animal Care and Control Administrator Leslie Fatum will visit Myers & Myers Paving.  Where:  3321 N. Southerland.

12:20–1:20 p.m. Mayor Peterson will have lunch with neighborhood leaders and Martin University students to discuss neighborhood issues, ideas and concerns.  Where:  Martin University Gathertorium, 2171 Avondale Pl.

1:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell, Community Development Director Andy Fraizer & Office of Neighborhood Services Administrator Kevin Sifferlen will visit the Edna Martin Christian Center.  Where:  1970 Caroline Ave.

1:30-2:00 p.m. Mayor Peterson will tour the Genesis Plaza and HealthNet Community Health Center.  Where:  2855 N. Keystone Ave.

1:30 p.m. Deputy Chief of Staff Andy Klineman & Council Relations Director Garland Graves will visit Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home.  Where:   2451 Andrew J. Brown St.

1:40 p.m. Deputy Chief of Staff Andy Klineman & Council Relations Director Garland Graves will visit Broady Campbell Masonry.  Where: 2115 Andrew J. Brown St.

2 – 4 p.m. Economic and Community Development Director Jim Garrard will visit businesses in the Keystone Enterprise Park.

2:15-2:30 p.m. Mayor Peterson will visit Department of Public Works employees and thank them for their work in conducting neighborhood blitzes.  Where:  3915 E. 21st St.

2:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell, Community Development Director Andy Fraizer will visit the Wheeler-Dowe Boys & Girls Club.  Where:   2310 E. 30th St.

3:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell & Community Development Director Andy Fraizer will visit Jireh Sports.  Where:   2259 Ralston Ave.

4 – 7 p.m. The Mayor’s Mobile Action Center will be available for citizens to report a problem or request a city service and meet face to face with customer service representatives.  Laptops will be on hand so that requests can be submitted instantly.  Where:  Brightwood Branch of the Marion County Public Library, 2435 N. Sherman Dr.
