Indy Partnership to court further Japanese business investment during next week’s conference
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Partnership will promote the 11-county Indianapolis region during next week’s 2006 Midwest Japan-US Association Conference. Held during September 10-12, the conference expects over 500 attendees.
The event was last held in Indiana in 1989.
“This conference is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the Indianapolis region to many important Japanese executives and companies,” said Gordon Hendry, Interim President and CEO of The Indy Partnership. “We can really build on relationships that have been developed over the past twenty five years. With this year’s Toyota and Honda announcements, we have great momentum to bring even more Japanese investment and jobs to the Indianapolis region.”
“Japanese companies and other international businesses are certainly taking notice of all Indianapolis has to offer with our business-friendly environment, qualified workforce and surging economy,” Mayor Bart Peterson said, noting that at least 33 Japanese-owned companies have operations in Indianapolis, according to the Partnership. “Hosting this conference provides us with another great opportunity to build on the foundation of successful Japanese businesses in Indianapolis and set the stage for more future investment and growth.
With the City of Indianapolis, the Partnership is a silver sponsor of the conference and the lead sponsor of Tuesday’s VIP Crooked Stick Golf Tournament followed by a dinner reception for 30 senior Japanese business executives.
In addition, the Partnership will:
- Welcome all attendees with letters from Mayor Bart Peterson and Hendry in conference booklets.
- Distribute brochures translated into Japanese that share information about the Indianapolis region to all conference attendees. Special thanks to IPL, an economic development partner of The Indy Partnership, for providing this opportunity.
- Host a booth to distribute additional information about the Indianapolis region.
- Attend the VIP Welcome Reception on Sunday, September 10 at the Eiteljorg Museum.
- Participate in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway “Racing Experience,” where Japanese executives will experience the thrill of a two-seater race car ride around the track
“We are pleased that 2006 has been so active for the Partnership’s outreach to Japanese companies,” said Hendry. “We will pursue further business opportunities for the region during the rest of 2006 and into 2007.”
Other 2006 activities by the Partnership relating to Japanese companies include:
- Joined the State’s trade mission to Japan in June
- Hosted Mitsuibishi during the Indianapolis 500
- Welcomed Moriden America’s founder and board chairman Mr. Ken-Ichi Morita to Indianapolis in August to celebrate Moriden’s new facility in Park Fletcher
- Organized a mid-October follow-up trade mission to Japan to meet with Honda, Toyota and their respective suppliers. The Partnership will also meet with other contacts from the June trade mission and the conference. Other regional economic development organizations from southern Indiana will join the Partnership on the October trade mission.
