Mayor to present Character Achievement Award to the Ben Davis Dads’ Organization
INDIANAPOLIS –Mayor Bart Peterson will present the Character Achievement award to the Ben Davis Dads’ Organization for promoting parental involvement from fathers who take an active role in the school community to help advance student achievement.
When: Tuesday, September 5; 1:30 – 2:15 p.m.
Where: Ben Davis High School, 1200 N. Girls School Rd. The presentation will take place in the theater. (Enter through Door 1.)
“The Ben Davis Dads’ Organization demonstrates the excellent type of parental involvement that our youth need,” said Mayor Bart Peterson. “By these fathers making their faces known to students, they are serving as role models and mentors and are fostering an environment for building character.” The Ben Davis Dads’ Organization was organized in 2004 and consists of 37 fathers. The organization offers a diverse composition of people who last year devoted more that 2,100 volunteer hours to counseling, tutoring and mentoring students in need of a dad. In addition, they offer career-shadowing opportunities; support faculty through monitoring hallways and the cafeteria; chaperon at school events; and provide security at athletic events.
