Mayor Peterson welcomes the Ambassador of Mexico
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will welcome the Honorable Carlos de Icaza, Ambassador of Mexico to the United States, to Indianapolis and will present him with a Key to the City.
WHEN: Thursday, August 17; 5 – 5:15 p.m.
WHERE: Mayor’s Conference Room City County Building 200 E. Washington Street
Ambassador Icaza’s visit to Indianapolis will focus on the United States/Mexico relations, specifically involving Indiana. Some of the issues likely to be discussed are detailed in a new study by the Mexican Consulate and the Sagamore Institute, directed by Sagamore senior researcher John Clark, titled “Connecting Mexico and the Hoosier Heartland”. The study focuses on the economic contributions of the Mexican population in Indiana, and issues such as trade, and the fiscal, financial and demographic impact of Mexican immigration into Indiana.
Last year, Mayor Peterson led a successful business mission to Mexico with more than 20 local Indianapolis professionals. The mission was organized by the Mexican Consulate, the Mayor’s Commission on Latino Affairs and other local organizations.
Icaza has been the Mexican Ambassador to the United States since March 31, 2004. His diplomatic career began in 1970 as Vice Consul and has held several diplomatic positions since.
