Mayor, city officials to join neighborhoods for ‘National Night Out’ events around the city
INDIANAPOLIS—Mayor Bart Peterson and city officials will be attending National Night Out (NNO) activities around the city tomorrow (Tuesday, August 1) to support community crimewatch programs and other crime prevention measures, to listen to neighborhood concerns about crime, and to gather ideas about other strategies to prevent and fight crime. NNO is organized locally by the Indianapolis Police Department (IPD). “National Night Out is not only a time for neighbors to gather together socially, but it also shows that our neighborhoods are organized and engaged when it comes to fighting crime,” said Peterson. “Community policing is most effective when residents are active and involved in their neighborhoods.”
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as block parties, cookouts, visits from local police departments, parades, exhibits, flashlight walks, contests, and youth programs.
