Mayor, Sheriff to mark opening of new program for female inmates at Liberty Hall
Peterson, Anderson to tour newly redone facility; Shift of inmates frees up beds at Marion County Jail
INDIANAPOLIS – Sheriff Frank Anderson and Mayor Bart Peterson, along with members of the Criminal Justice Planning Council, will tour the new facilities at Liberty Hall, a private correctional center that will house female inmates of the Marion County Jail.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 5 10 a.m.
WHERE: Liberty Hall, 675 E. Washington St.
Media are invited to join the Mayor and Sheriff on the tour.
Liberty Hall will provide programs and services for women inmates, including educational and parenting skills classes, as well as job training and other courses and programs aimed at rehabilitation.
The new program also will help ease the county's jail overcrowding. By shifting female inmates to Liberty Hall from the Marion County Jail, jail beds will be opened up in the jail this summer. -30-
