ROLLS-ROYCE MAKES COMMITMENT TO MAJOR GROWTH IN INDIANA, 600 NEW AEROSPACE JOBS
INDIANAPOLIS , IN - Governor Mitch Daniels, Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson and Rolls-Royce Chief Operating Officer Steven Dwyer today announced an economic assistance package designed to create 600 new jobs at the company’s Indianapolis location.
The facility is the largest of the global company’s manufacturing sites in North America and currently employs more than 4,000 people. The state of Indiana through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and the City of Indianapolis finalized negotiations with Rolls-Royce earlier this week.
“The creation of this economic development package was done in the true spirit of partnership and Rolls-Royce has received tremendous support and cooperation from both the state’s and the city’s economic development teams,” Dwyer said. “As a result of this package, Rolls-Royce plans to invest in both the upgrade of site facilities as well as the procurement of new machine technologies to improve our productivity. These will be crucial factors in our continued efforts to improve the position of our facility in what is an increasingly competitive industry.”
Rolls-Royce Corporation is a leader in advanced manufacturing, research and development and gas turbine engine servicing for civil aerospace, defense, marine and energy markets. The Indianapolis site for Rolls-Royce is the company’s largest manufacturing facility outside of the United Kingdom.
“This is a great outcome for everyone. I commend the IEDC on one of its best efforts by turning a potential loss into a big win. The IEDC showed its creativity with this project and brought these difficult and lengthy negotiations to a successful outcome,” said Governor Daniels.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation will provide a $17 million incentive package in return for the company’s commitment to invest $145 million in capital while creating 600 new jobs. Jobs will be spread over manufacturing, engineering, as well as research and development. All jobs will pay in line with the current Rolls-Royce wage and salary structure. In addition, the city has approved a ten-year abatement worth approximately $11 million, based on agreed Rolls-Royce capital investment and job creation.
“Rolls-Royce is a world leader in this innovative, high-tech industry, and the type of company that every city in America would want to have located in their community,” said Mayor Peterson. “This significant investment and Rolls-Royce’s commitment to create hundreds of new, high-paying jobs shows that the Indianapolis economy is churning and poised for even more future growth.”
Up to 150 of the estimated 600 new jobs will be created through the establishment of a center of excellence dedicated to the advancement of aerospace industry technology. The additional 450 new jobs will be created in increments over the next eight years.
