Mayor to host sixth “City Hall for a Day” on the Far Eastside
INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Bart Peterson and members of his administration will host the sixth "City Hall for a Day" on the far east side of Indianapolis.
WHEN: Tomorrow – Wednesday, June 14 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The boundaries for the area to be included in “City Hall for a Day” activities are 56th St. (north), 16th St. (south), German Church Rd. (east), and Shadeland Ave. (west).
"City Hall for a Day" brings many of the staff and resources of city government to a particular area of the city for one day, allowing the Mayor and city staffers to meet with local neighborhood leaders, visit local businesses, see community projects and activities, and take part in many other activities and events.
Mayor Peterson will kick off the City Hall for a Day by announcing a land transfer to Indy Parks, which will lead to a new regional park on the city’s eastside.
A complete schedule is as follows:
9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Indianapolis Animal Care & Control (IACC) will conduct a stray animal sweep.
9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) & the Marion County Sheriff’s Department will stage the IPD MCOPS van on the southeast corner of 38th and Franklin Road. IPD middle shift roll call will be held at 1:30 p.m. 9 a.m. City inspectors will conduct a sign sweep on Shadeland Ave. from 38th to E. Washington St. AND an inspector from the Marion County Health Department will inspect and issue appropriate notices of violations for high weeds and grass, trash, and any structural violations. Where: Post Rd. from 42nd Street to I-70.
10 a.m. – 3 p.m. City staffers will distribute “Correct Connect” door hangers and information on the City Hall for a Day and Mayor’s Action Center. Where: Neighborhoods @ 38th & Post, Northeastwood @ 38th & Ireland, and Dubarry @ 38th & Franklin.
10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Department of Public Works (DPW) will:
- Clear a ditch at 9601 E. 42nd St., from Baker to Downs St. along the south side of 42nd Street. This ditch is not the type that residents are able to maintain due to the depth. The city has brought in power equipment to clear the trees and brush from the area;
- Community service crews will remove litter and heavy trash; and
- Mark storm drains.
10:30-11:00 Mayor Peterson will kick off the City Hall for a Day by announcing a land transfer to Indy Parks, which will lead to a new regional park on the city’s eastside. Where: Andrew J. Brown Charter School, 3600 N. German Church Rd.
10:30 a.m. Mayor’s Latino Affairs Director Ricardo Gambetta will visit and attend a staff meeting at La Plaza. Where: 8902 E. 38th St.
11 a.m. DPW will host a Knozone presentation with Dr. Kno and bike giveaway at the TM Youth Development Foundation. Where: 4501 N. Post Rd.
11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The City of Lawrence Fire Department will have an “Open House” at Station #3. Members of the Dive/Rescue Team will discuss water safety and fire and life safety handouts and smoke detectors will be available. Where: 4902 N. German Church Rd.
The Warren Township and Indianapolis Fire Departments will have the “Survive Alive” Safety Trailer at the CAFÉ offices. Fire and life safety handouts and smoke detectors will be available. Where: 8902 E. 38th St.
11:10-11:45 Mayor Peterson will visit kids at John Marshall Middle School. The ICVA band, Inergy, will perform & interact with kids. Where: 10101 E. 38th St.
12 noon – 1:10 p.m. Mayor Peterson will have lunch with Eastside business leaders.
12 p.m. Knozone presentation and bike giveaway w/Dr. Kno. Where: Community Alliance of the Far Eastside, Inc. (CAFÉ), 8902 E. 38th St.
12 – 1 p.m. Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell and Department of Metropolitan Development Director Maury Plambeck will attend the Apartment Managers Roundtable meeting. Where: 8902 E. 38th St.
(12 – 3 p.m. The Marion County Sheriff Department (MCSD) will have bike patrol officers riding in the Dubarry Park neighborhood. They will also have crime prevention officers at CAFE, along with 911 information and community policing brochures.
1 – 4 p.m. Indianapolis Animal Care & Control will offer animal adoption, microchipping & the spay/neuter mobile unit. Where: CAFE, 8902 E. 38th St.
1:20 – 2 p.m. Mayor Peterson will visit CAFÉ/Far East Side Neighborhood Center. Where: 8902 E. 38th St. 2:05 – 3 p.m. Mayor Peterson and representatives of DPW, the Department of Metropolitan Development and others will take a bus tour of the far eastside with neighborhood leaders. 3-6 p.m. The Mobile Mayor’s Action Center will be located at the Warren branch of the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library. Citizens can report a problem or request a city service and meet face to face with customer service representatives. Laptops will be on hand so requests can be submitted instantly. Where: 9701 E. 21st St. 3–6 p.m. Tox Drop. Citizens will have the opportunity to safely dispose of general household hazardous waste products like cleaning agents, batteries, fluorescent light tubes, antifreeze, paints, paint thinner, thermostats, and used motor oil. Where: 9049 E. 10th St.
