Mayor to join KIB in kicking off effort to plant 100,000 trees across Indianapolis
City to mark Arbor Day with tree plantings and new partnership to improve Indy’s world-class parks
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will mark Arbor Day by joining Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. to kick-off the NeighborWoods initiative, which calls for planting 100,000 trees across the city over the next ten years.
The Mayor will also join Rubert Boneham of "Survivor" fame to announce a unique partnership between Indy Parks and Recreation and Bonehams’ non-profit organization "Rupert’s Kids."
Both events will take place tomorrow, April 28.
NeighborWoods Kick-off Tree Planting
Mayor Peterson, KIB representatives, community leaders and corporate sponsors will join students from IPS School 14 to officially plant the first tree of the NeighborWoods initiative.
WHEN: Noon (Ceremonial tree planting will start right at the top of the hour.)
WHERE: Corner of the 1200 block of E. Ohio Street and Highland Ave.
Indy Parks partnership with "Rupert’s Kids"
Mayor Peterson will join Indy Parks Director Joe Wynns, representatives of the Indiana State Museum and Rupert Boneham to announce an effort to engage youth in improving and beautifying local parks.
