Leaders to Unveil New Community Campaign, Champions for Children, Aimed at Preventing Child Abuse, Neglect
WHAT: Champions for Children is a new community campaign aimed at raising awareness on how child abuse and neglect can be prevented. It will be kicked off during National Child Abuse Prevention Month which takes place nationwide every April.
WHEN: Sunday, April 9
News conference: 12:40 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Champions for Children Fun Fest: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
WHERE: Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th Street, Indianapolis
WHY: With nearly 25,000 substantiated cases of abuse and/or neglect and 57 deaths of Hoosier children in 2004, it is urgent that members of the community learn how they can help prevent child abuse and the importance of reporting suspicions of abuse to authorities.
The press conference will be followed by a free Champions for Children Fun Fest, an afternoon of games and activities for kids that will include clowns, jugglers, magicians and a few surprise celebrities.

SPONSOR: Champions for Children is a coalition of volunteers aligned to support the prevention of abuse and neglect of children. By sharing information and taking action to support children, Champions for Children is working to make the safety and well-being of children a community responsibility.
