Mayor to host third “City Hall for a Day” in Garfield Park neighborhood

Day-long event to coincide with Peterson’s "State of the City" address

INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson and members of his administration will host the third "City Hall for a Day" next week in the Garfield Park area.

The first two "City Halls for a Day" were in held Broad Ripple Village and the near east side community organization (NESCO) area.

The Mayor’s "City Hall for a Day" brings many of the staff and resources of city government to a particular area of the city for one day, allowing the Mayor and city staffers to meet with local neighborhood leaders, visit local businesses, see community projects and activities, and take part in many other activities and events.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 7

9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Garfield Park area "City Hall for a Day" schedule:

9:30 a.m. Assistant Deputy Mayor Eugene Anderson will visit with area churches.

10 a.m.-12 p.m. Code enforcement "mini-sweep."

10:30-11:30 a.m. Charter Schools Director David Harris and Assistant Director Corrie Conner, will tour the Christel House Academy, a mayor-sponsored charter school, 2717 South East St.

11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) Station #29, 602 E. Pleasant Run Pkwy., N. Dr., will have smoke detectors available to give away to the public.

11:30 Director of Latino Affairs Ricardo Gambetta will meet with representatives of La Plaza, a neighborhood Hispanic Center.

12 - 3 p.m. Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) neighborhood resource officers will provide crime prevention information at the Garfield Park Burrello Family Center, 2345 Pagoda Dr. Bicycle officers also will be riding in the area.

12:30 p.m. Mayor Peterson will deliver his annual "State of the City" address at the Garfield Park Art Center, 2332 Conservatory Drive.

1 - 4 p.m. Mobile Mayor’s Action Center will open in the conference room of the Burrello Family Center. Citizens can come anytime from 1 to 4 p.m. to report a problem or request a city service and meet face to face with customer service representatives. Laptops will be on hand so that requests can be submitted instantly.

1 - 4 p.m. Indianapolis Animal Care & Control will provide microchipping for pets and have animals available for adoption at the Burrello Family Center.

1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Mayor Peterson will tour IPS School # 34, 1410 Wade St., and meet with teachers and staff.

1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell and Indy Parks Director Joe Wynns will meet with neighborhood leaders at the Burrello Family Center - members of the public are invited to attend and voice their questions and concerns.

2 - 4 p.m. IFD smoke detectors will be available at the Garfield Park Burrello Family Center.

2:30 p.m. Mayor Peterson, along with representatives of Davis Homes, will cut the ribbon on Pleasant Run Apartments, formerly the home of the Bemis Bag Company, 1015 Vesper Pl. The site is a former brownfield.

2:30 - 4 p.m. Department of Administration Director Earl Morgan will visit businesses in the Garfield Park area.

3 - 4 p.m. Mayor Peterson, Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) Director Maury Plambeck and Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Jim Garrard will conduct a bus tour of DMD and DPW projects with southside neighborhood leaders.

4 p.m. Mayor Peterson will tour the Burrello Family Center

4 p.m. Mobile Mayor’s Action Center closes.
