Countdown to police merger: 3 days
City continues public outreach campaign with release of third episode of merger video
Indianapolis – Thousands of neighborhood residents and community leaders today will receive an e-mail linking them to the newest episode of the city’s police merger video series, “Building a 21st Century Police Department.” The six-episode video magazine is part of an extensive public outreach effort launched earlier this month by Mayor Bart Peterson and Sheriff Frank Anderson aimed at informing residents and businesses about the changes and enhancements coming with the impending police merger on January 1.
The latest episode of the video series -- made available by visiting the merger website, policemerger.indygov.org. -- focuses on police coverage, patrol beat maps and the district headquarter locations of the new Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Residents can easily sign up at policemerger.indygov.org to receive the videos, which will be released about once a week. They also will have the capability to forward on the video links to friends and neighbors. For those who just wish to view the video updates, they are easily accessible on the homepage of policemerger.indygov.org.
Neighborhood policing topics covered in the six-part series include:
background and events leading to the merger; the enhancements in community policing; identifying officers (with the new cars and uniforms); the new beats and districts; and the role of new community relations officers
Residents without Internet access can utilize the new merger information hotline, 327-MERGE, to get responses to any unanswered questions.
