Mayor, community to unveil plans for second Indy Homeless Connect
One year after inaugural event brought together 500 volunteers to serve nearly 900 homeless clients, Peterson outlines plans to build on successful initiative
INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Bart Peterson will join homelessness advocates, business leaders and service providers to kick off plans for the city’s second Indy Homeless Connect.
When: Tomorrow (Thursday), December 14 12:45 p.m.
Where: Mayor’s Conference Room – 25th Floor of the City-County Building 200 E. Washington St.
Indy Homeless Connect is an outgrowth of the Blueprint to End Homelessness, the city’s ambitious plan released in 2002 to end and prevent homelessness in Indianapolis.
Last December’s Indy Homeless Connect event brought together approximately 500 volunteers to serve nearly 900 homeless clients. The clients received dozens of core services, including medical care, food, mental health counseling, vision care, legal advice and housing assistance – located all under one roof at the Indiana Convention Center.
The Mayor will be joined by a client served at the first Indy Homeless Connect. The formerly homeless client will be available to share his experience and tell his story of success since the event.
