Mayor, Sheriff, IMPD leadership to launch community outreach effort aimed at informing public about police merger
Indianapolis – To help local neighborhoods prepare for the consolidation of Indianapolis' two major law enforcement agencies, Mayor Bart Peterson will join Sheriff Frank Anderson, Police Chief Michael Spears and the new command staff of the IMPD to launch an extensive public outreach effort aimed at informing residents and businesses about what to expect when the new Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department begins patrols in three weeks.
WHAT: Press conference to announce the IMPD public outreach campaign and community resources
WHEN: Tuesday, December 12, 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Mayor's Conference Room City-County Building, 200 E. Washington St.
"This is an exciting and historic time for our city," Mayor Peterson said. "Every major decision to shape this new department has been made and we expect a smooth transition. One of the main focuses now is making sure the public knows what to expect come January 1 and providing them with the resources they need to get answers to any questions they might have."
