Mayor to present Character Achievement Award to George Washington student
Indianapolis –Mayor Bart Peterson will present the Character Achievement award to Jeterica Penner, an eighth-grade student at George Washington Community School, for her dedication to volunteerism.
When: Today, November 28 1:15 p.m.
Where: George Washington Community School 2215 West Washington Street
Jeterica demonstrates her genuine desire to help her fellow classmates by volunteering part of her lunch break to assist students with disabilities. According to special education teacher Chris Boylan, Jeterica carries the lunch trays of students in wheelchairs “with a smile everyday,” and she encourages her classmates to join her in helping others.
In addition to her leadership skills, Jeterica is also an excellent student enrolled in the school’s honors program. Her positive attitude and exemplary work ethic serve as an example for other students, according to teachers at George Washington.
Since Mayor Peterson took office, he has given monthly awards to outstanding individuals who demonstrate excellent character.
