Updated resource for local families now includes information about current and upcoming school year
Indianapolis – Mayor Bart Peterson today released a new, updated version of his Family Guide to Public Schools in Indianapolis, which includes information about the 2006-07 school year, as well as the 2007-08 school year.
This online tool, dedicated to providing families with comprehensive information about local public schooling opportunities, was launched in the fall of 2003 and is updated annually. In 2006 alone, more than 22,000 people have visited the site.
“This guide is a great tool for parents looking into our city’s public schooling options and educational resources,” Mayor Peterson said. “Gaining knowledge of available quality educational options allows families to make informed decisions about their children’s future.”
Parents can reach the Web site at imaps.indygov.org/schools. There are also links to the site from several popular websites, including the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR) and the City of Indianapolis’ website.
The site allows parents to:

The website contains a host of information about every public school in Indianapolis, including basic information about how to contact the principal as well as detailed descriptions of each school’s academic program. There are also links to state performance data and to maps that show where each school is located.
Another unique feature of the site allows parents to enter an address and get a list of all schools their children are eligible to attend, including geographically assigned schools, magnet schools and charter schools. The entire site is available in Spanish.
