Mayor, Sheriff to speak at 103rd IPD recruit class graduation today
Class is first to include both Sheriff’s Department and IPD recruits; new officers to hit streets next year as members of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department
INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Bart Peterson and Marion County Sheriff Frank Anderson will address the 103rd Indianapolis Police Department Recruit Class today during a commencement ceremony.
WHEN: TODAY – Friday, October 6 Noon
WHERE: IPD Training Academy 901 N. Post Road
The graduation marks another important milestone in the consolidation of IPD and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
The 103rd Recruit Class is first to include both Sheriff’s Department and IPD recruits. New officers from this class will hit the streets next year after field training as members of the new Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Earlier this summer, a new command structure was shaped to eliminate duplication of duties in the upper ranks of the two departments. The hiring of new officers – including members of the 103rd recruit class – and the transfer of officers from once-duplicative positions to street patrol will result in more than 130 police officers being added by the end of 2008 to fight crime in local neighborhoods.
