Healthy Habits is a 12-week program that will offer a wide-variety of fitness, nutrition and weight management classes to city and county employees. Registration begins today, and classes begin the week of February 6 and will be held at the City-County Building and at other city government locations. Employees who attend six or more classes will be eligible for prizes at the end of the program.
Spectrum Health Systems, the city and county wellness provider, the National Institute of Fitness and Sport and Clarian Health Partners are offering the classes at no cost to employees.
Last August, Mayor Peterson issued a 12-month fitness challenge to Hoosiers to get up and get moving - a challenge that he committed to himself. Monthly FitCity Challenges have taken the mayor to a YMCA after-school program, an intergenerational walk through Martin Luther King Park, to George Washington Community School and to Emma Donnan Middle School.
FitCity is designed to educate and motivate local residents to make a healthy move and shake the title of the "fourth fattest state in the nation." To find fitness, nutrition or wellness resources around Indianapolis, local residents can call 2-1-1 or log onto www.FitCity.info.
The FitCity Challenge is a monthly program sponsored by Clarian Health Partners and supported by the Mayor’s Office and The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis.
