INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will welcome students to the first day of school at the 21st Century Charter School at Fountain Square next week.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 6, 2005
          9:30 a.m.

WHERE: 21st Century Charter School at Fountain Square
            1615 S. Barth Avenue

The 21st Century Charter School at Fountain Square will serve grades 6-9 this year and will add one grade each year to eventually serve grades 6-12. Classrooms will feature multi-age groupings and each student will have an individually tailored learning plan. Students will use a computer-based curriculum that allows them to progress at their own pace through individualized lessons and assessments. They will complete multidisciplinary projects connecting academic subjects, visual arts, drama and music, and will begin to learn the Spanish language in the sixth grade. Character and life skills education also will be integral components to the overall school environment.
