Mayor, DPW to discuss status of 38th Street project including timelines, third phase plans
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson and Department of Public Works Director Jim Garrard will provide an update on the status of the 38th Street project, "Update 38," including construction timelines and description of the third phase of construction scheduled to begin in 2006.

The improvements along 38th Street, formerly known as Maple Road, are necessary to rehabilitate the deteriorating concrete pavement that is at least 35 years old. Phase I of the project, which began in March 2003 and is scheduled for completion in fall 2005, includes work from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. to Salem St. Phase II began in April 2004 and is scheduled for completion in winter 2006 and includes work from Salem St. to Fall Creek Parkway.
The project is currently on schedule. The city and the Maple Road Development Association have been working together since 1998, along with other area stakeholders, to renovate, rebuild and reinvigorate the 38th St. corridor.
