Deputy Mayor, city officials to revive Indy Works at summer legislative committee
INDIANAPOLIS - A team of city officials will testify before the Marion County Consolidation Summer Study Committee tomorrow on Indianapolis Works, Mayor Bart Peterson’s government reform plan to save local property taxpayers $35 million every year.
This will be the first time the city has had the opportunity to discuss the plan at the Statehouse since the end of the legislative session. The city team will include:

• William Sheldrake, president, Policy Analytics LLC
• Suzannah Overholt, Indianapolis Works Transition Director
• Louis Dezelan, Indianapolis Fire Chief, 2000-2004
• Deputy Chief Rick Longerich, Indianapolis Fire Department
• Mike Reeves, president, Firefighters Union Local 416
Mayor Peterson cannot attend as he will be testifying before the federal Defense Base Closure & Realignment Commission in Washington D.C. to urge the panel to bring new jobs to the Defense Finance & Accounting Service center at Fort Benjamin Harrison.
WHEN: Tomorrow - Wednesday, August 10 Meeting starts at 10 a.m.
WHERE: Indiana Statehouse, House Chambers
When Peterson proposed Indianapolis Works last year, he warned that if nothing were done, the city and county would be forced to make up the $35 million by cutting programs and services that rely on property tax dollars. By law, Indianapolis Works had to be passed by the Indiana General Assembly, but the legislature did not pass the plan.
Since then, the city has been forced to cut services in 2005 and 2006 by nearly $30 million and cut 189 positions through attrition.
