Mayor Peterson to present 2006 city & county budgets tonight
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will present the proposed budgets for 2006 for the City of Indianapolis and Marion County before the City-County Council tonight.
This city budget, the Mayor’s sixth, will include Indianapolis police and fire services, parks, public works and other city services.
However, tonight marks the first time an Indianapolis mayor has proposed a budget for county government, which funds the sheriff, prosecutor, county jail, probation and other countywide services.
This change is a result of state legislation passed earlier this year giving the mayor and city controller responsibility for proposing and managing the budgets of county agencies, in addition to city agencies.
