Mayor to present Excellence in Education award
INDIANAPOLIS - - Mayor Bart Peterson will present an Excellence in Education award to Lutherwood School for its work with at-risk children.

(Presentation will be made in the dining hall of the Johnson Multi-Purpose Building)
IPS #267, known as Lutherwood, is an eight-room classroom that serves 90 children and is located on the grounds of Lutheran Child & Family Services. In addition to basic education services, including special education services, Lutherwood offers individual and group therapy sessions, community outings and community service projects.
Lutherwood collaborates with Indianapolis Public Schools, who provides six special education teachers, and Gallahue Mental Health Services, who provides individual and group therapy sessions for the students.
The school provides a structured, full-day program that not only focuses on basic education skills like math, language arts, science, social studies and art, but also provides instruction in areas such as making a budget, balancing a checkbook, completing a job application and learning interviewing skills.
