Mayor & staff to join neighborhoods for ‘National Night Out’ events around the city
INDIANAPOLIS-Mayor Bart Peterson and members of his staff will be attending National Night Out (NNO) activities around the city tonight to support community Crimewatch programs and other crime prevention measures, to listen to neighborhood concerns about crime, and to gather ideas about other ways to prevent and fight crime. NNO is organized locally by the Indianapolis Police Department (IPD).
"National Night Out is one of my favorite events of the year," said Peterson. "Not only is it a time for neighbors to gather together, but it also shows that our neighborhoods are organized when it comes to fighting crime. Community policing is most effective when residents are active and involved in their neighborhoods."
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as block parties, cookouts, visits from local police departments, parades, exhibits, flashlight walks, contests, and youth programs.
