Mayor to meet with Special Events Task Force to discuss plans for IBE Summer Celebration
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will meet with his Special Events Task Force to review downtown traffic, parking and hospitality plans for Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration, one of the city’s largest annual events. Summer Celebration is scheduled for July 7 - 17.
WHEN: Thursday, July 7, 2005 4 p.m.
WHERE: Mayor’s Conference Room 2522 City-County Building
The Mayor created the task force four years ago to work with the Mayor’s office, the Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) and event organizers to help ensure that all major downtown events are safe and visitors have a positive experience in Indianapolis.
Some of the changes to be discussed for this year include:
- Loss of two lanes on Capitol Avenue due to the construction of the Simon building; and
- Increased IndyGo bus service on major routes and availability of Blue Line circulator, including extension to the Indianapolis Zoo and free use to riders during Summer Celebration.
Again this year, Indianapolis Downtown Inc. will prepare a map detailing all the street closings, locations of the 24-hour parking garages, parent drop off and pick up locations, and other information. The map will be on both IBE’s and IDI’s web pages, and it will be provided to the media in advance of the start of Summer Celebration.
The Special Events Task Force includes representatives of the Mayor’s office, IPD, downtown businesses, hotels and restaurants, Indiana Black Expo and others.
