City launches 'e-newsletter' & neighborhood liaisons to more efficiently, cost-effectively communicate with neighborhoods
INDIANAPOLIS - The City of Indianapolis today will launch a free electronic neighborhood services newsletter, which will enhance communication with neighborhood organizations and city residents, but avoid costly printing costs for distribution to thousands of people.
In his Peterson Plan II, Mayor Peterson promised to implement a regular newsletter to keep neighborhood leaders and residents informed and connected to city government.
The email will be provided at no cost to residents and will contain timely information about city services and initiatives, funding opportunities, public meetings, links to important government information and other items of interest.
This email newsletter will be a cost-effective approach to communication and will ultimately replace some more costly print publications, the Mayor said.
"I strongly support building the capacity of all neighborhood organizations by increasing their access to information from city government," Mayor Peterson said. "This will be a great tool for our residents to more easily navigate their local government services."
Also announced today is a title change for "Township Administrators," who along with the Mayor's Action Center, will be the direct link between the Mayor's Office and neighborhood, community and businesses, as well as any city department and service.
Their new name will be "Mayor's Neighborhood Liaisons," which better reflects their service to the community and their role in city government and alleviates any confusion as to their connection with township government, said Steve Campbell, Deputy Mayor for Public & Neighborhood Affairs.
All of these changes are being made without new dollars or new personnel.
The city has spent the past several months developing this email newsletter to be distributed to neighborhood organizations and all Indianapolis residents who sign up to receive this communication.
All residents of Indianapolis interested in learning more about city government can sign up to receive future newsletters and view the current issues at www.indygov.org/myneighborhood. Paper copies will be made available for those without Internet access, by calling the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services at 327-5039 for more information.
