Mayor to honor Franklin Central High School's Architecture and Engineering Club with Excellence in Education award

INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will honor Franklin Central High School's Architecture and Engineering Club with June's Excellence in Education award.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 22
          11 a.m.

WHERE: Thompson Park
            6451 East Thompson Road

The two dozen members of Franklin Central High School's Architecture and Engineering Club embarked on a large project to beautify and improve a city park. The students planted trees at Thompson Park, surveyed residents and helped Indy Parks staff draft a master plan for full-scale recreation facilities at the park. The plan has been accepted by the Board of Parks and Recreation and, if adopted by the Metropolitan Development Commission and funding is identified, the project could be completed in three to five years. The master plan calls for soccer fields, a basketball court, a sand volleyball pit, a spray pool, and a playground accessible to those with disabilities.
