Mayor, public safety officials & Indy Parks to kick off summer water safety program
INDIANAPOLIS -Mayor Bart Peterson will join Director of Public Safety Robert Turner, Indy Parks & Recreation Director Joe Wynns, Indianapolis Police Chief Michael Spears and members of the IFD dive team for the kickoff of "Safe Summer 2005," a multi-department water safety program.
WHEN: TODAY - Thursday, June 9 2 p.m.
WHERE: City-County Building, South Plaza 200 E. Washington St.
"This kickoff comes at a critical moment for our city," Mayor Peterson said. "We've had several water-related deaths in our community in a short period of time, and this is tragic and unacceptable.
"We need to continue to educate the public on water safety and continue to evaluate how we are protecting ourselves and our children from water-related accidents. We've got to learn from the past so we can better prevent these types of incidents in the future."
