Canal and White River State Park to showcase new vending program; kick-off summer activities
INDIANAPOLIS - The Canal and White River State Park will host an event to showcase the cultural district's summer activities and special events, including a new vending program that will - for the first time - provide daily food and beverage options at canal-level throughout the district.
When: TODAY, May 17 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Canal and White River State Park (on the Vermont St. Plaza just south of the Vermont St. bridge)
The launch of the new vending program is in response to a market study performed last year by the City of Indianapolis in partnership with graduate students from Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis. Canal users were surveyed about the types of future enhancements they would like to see along the canal. The addition of unique food retail options was one of the top responses.
The launch event is co-sponsored by the City of Indianapolis and Buggs Special Events, LLC, which will manage the vending program, as well as special events and promotions along the canal.
The event will also feature other Canal and White River State Park summer activities, including gondola rides, pedal boats and family bike rentals. Bikes and pedal boats are currently available for rent on weekends from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and begin daily operations in June. The gondolas will launch May 21 and will operate Wednesdays through Sundays from 3 to 10 p.m., or private rides may be scheduled by calling 491-4835.
Last year, the Canal and White River State Park was named one of Indianapolis' six cultural districts. For more information about the district and upcoming summer events, including outdoor concerts and the opening of the new Eiteljorg café, visit www.discovercanal.com.
